Summer is quickly approaching—and while school schedules slow down and caseloads shift, it’s the perfect time to work on your business, not just in it. Whether you’re just starting your private practice or looking to grow your visibility, the slower pace of summer is ideal for building a strong, sustainable marketing strategy.
Here’s how you can use the next few months to put systems in place that will help you attract more of the clients you want—without the stress of doing it all at once.
Why Summer is the Perfect Season to Focus on Marketing
Let’s be honest—during the school year, it’s hard to find time for anything beyond client care, paperwork, and staying afloat. But summer offers space. You can think strategically, experiment with new tools, and get ahead on content so you’re not scrambling come fall.
If you’ve been putting off marketing because you didn’t know where to start, now’s your chance to lay the groundwork for growth.
Step 1: Define Your Brand and Audience
Before you post anything or build a website, take time to clarify two things:
Who are you helping? Are you working with preschoolers? Adults with aphasia? Accent modification clients? Get specific.
What sets you apart? Maybe it’s your play-based approach, telepractice expertise, bilingual services, or years of school experience. Identify your unique value.
This clarity makes all your future marketing—content, outreach, social media—so much easier and more effective.
Step 2: Choose Your Primary Marketing Channels
You don’t have to be everywhere. Choose 1–2 marketing channels to focus on this summer. Some common and effective options for SLPs:
Social Media– Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or LinkedIn
Email Marketing – A must if you want to build relationships with potential clients or referral sources.
Your Website – Make sure it clearly communicates who you help, how you help them, and how to contact you.
Step 3: Batch Your Content Creation
Content is how people find you and begin to trust your expertise, but posting randomly without a plan won’t get you far. Use summer to:
Map out themes by month. For example, July = back-to-school tips, August = speech milestones by age.
Create a content calendar. Plan 2–4 posts per week so you’re not stuck thinking of what to say on the spot.
Batch your content. Set aside a day to write captions, film short videos, or design graphics in Canva.
This helps you stay consistent and show up professionally without constantly being online.
Step 4: Promote What You Offer—Clearly and Confidently
Make it easy for people to understand how they can work with you. Post about:
What services you offer
Who your ideal clients are
How to book a consultation
Success stories (with permission)
FAQs (How does telepractice work? Do you take insurance?)
Remember: repetition is not annoying—it’s necessary for people to remember and trust you.
Step 5: Track What’s Working
You don’t need to obsess over data, but keep an eye on what works and adjust what doesn’t.
